Transformer oil purification: Why and how?

Transformers are essential components for supplying electric power to various circuits, ensuring safe voltage levels. Insulation systems protect transformers from overheating, but poor maintenance and moisture content can lead to degradation, reducing efficiency and causing power outages. To maintain insulation, it is crucial to maintain a moisture content below 10 ppm in transformer oils. Activated alumina, a highly porous material, is an effective adsorbent that effectively absorbs moisture content, ensuring a well-purified oil.

Lubricating oil clean-up

Lubricant oils, commonly mineral lube oils, play a crucial role in reducing friction and heat between mechanical components in close contact. Maintaining clean and hygienic lubricant oils is essential for their lifetime, productivity, and efficiency. Aging lubricant oils can produce acids, which can be reduced using activated alumina. Sorbead India offers 3-5 mm activated alumina balls to effectively remove acidic components, increasing the life and productivity of lubricant oils.

Refrigerant purification

Activated alumina is a crucial component in a refrigeration system to lower the acid in refrigerant lines, which contain refrigerants or coolants. This prevents moisture and water from entering the system, causing oxidation and corrosion. Filter dryer units, such as activated alumina, molecular sieves, and silica gels, are used to prevent water and moisture from entering the refrigerant line. Activated alumina's tunnel-sized pores and high surface area make it an ideal choice for filter dryer units in refrigeration systems.
